Saddleback is in a stunning location. The beauty of a holiday in Sussex is that it feels wonderfully rural and remote, yet it is only a 90-minute drive from London and with good access to major roads and trains. You can jump in the car after a stressful week at work and be sitting with a drink, watching a peaceful sunset before you know it! Saddleback is one of four beautiful properties at Poppinghole Farm. Lovingly converted, Saddleback was once the cow byre and now provides self-catering for two guests with one bedroom with en-suite.
There are great pubs within two miles of Poppinghole Farm, including the historic George Inn and the Salehurst Halt in Robertsbridge or a little further afield the White Dog at Ewhurst which overlooks Bodiam Castle. Robertsbridge village also has a well-stocked village store and a small supermarket. The high street boasts beautiful black and white medieval houses. Hastings is ten miles away on the coast, offering a more extensive range of shops and amenities. You cannot avoid the town’s association with the famous battle that took place in 1066, but Hastings also has strong links to smuggling and fishing. You can find out more about the area’s history at the Hastings Fishermen’s Museum, the Shipwreck Museum, the True Crime Museum, and Smuggler’s Adventure, which takes you through caves used for storing contraband.
The site of the famous Battle of Hastings is in Battle, next to the ruined Abbey. Standing on the edge of an enormous field, it is difficult to imagine that the peaceful expanse of green was the site of such carnage, with up to 10,000 men dying when William the Conqueror defeated King Harold to change the course of Britain’s history. History aside, Battle is a charming town and a lovely place to stop for lunch or afternoon tea. Other nearby attractions include Bodiam Castle, Leeds Castle, Wilderness Wood and Bedgebury Pinetum, Pashley Manor Gardens, and beautiful towns including Rye, Royal Tunbridge Wells and Tenterden.
Poppinghole Farm sits in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and there are many opportunities for walking and cycling. The farm has two private lakes for guests to visit and a fabulous indoor swimming pool. However, if you prefer to relax, Saddleback is the ideal place in which to unwind and recharge.

A welcome hamper to start your stay is provided You will feel pampered from the moment you arrive but, just in case that is not enough, you can also book a treatment at the farm's resident spa “The Beehive”

Outside: Saddleback has a private patio with outdoor furniture two sun beds and dining table for alfresco dining. All properties face onto a paved courtyard with a fountain centrepiece. Guests have shared use of the heated indoor swimming pool and access to a laundry room. There is ample off-street parking. In addition to being a wonderful retreat, Poppinghole is a working farm and an exciting place to be during lambing season. Numerous footpaths lead from the farm for leisurely country walks.
Additional Information: Strictly no smoking or vaping in or around the cottages, farm buildings, courtyard or swimming pool. Short breaks may be possible depending on availability - please enquire with the owner. All utilities, linen and towels are provided for two guests. As it is a working farm, the owners regret they cannot sadly allow pets.
